DENVER (KDVR) — If you have your groceries delivered through PineMelon, that option is no longer available: The company ceased all operations on Sunday, with final pickup options offered on Monday.
The company describes itself as a "curated platform for local food makers" that's based in Denver, offering same-day delivery and focused on providing products made in Colorado — grocery items, pantry staples and household necessities — instead of national or value-driven brands.
114 people fired from National Renewable Energy Laboratory as federal cuts impact ColoradoThe company launched in Denver on April 12, 2022, and the founders said in an announcement published on May 9 that their "current financial situation" had led to the company's closure by the end of the day on May 11.
"We firmly believe that one day, hopefully in the near future, our vision for a local-first food economy will come to fruition, on the Front Range, across Colorado, and beyond," the founders, Alex and Anna Lee, wrote in the announcement. "We’re proud of the work we’ve done to further this cause and wish the best to those carrying this vision forward."
The founders said that they had sought to create a sustainable business model that would help pay local farmers and cultivate an internal team instead of outsourcing to gig workers, and didn't require a subscription. In 2024, the company expanded into Boulder.
"We have made great strides in improving our financial position over the last 3 years, especially with the changes we’ve instituted in 2025. However, it has not been possible for PineMelon to execute a path forward," the pair wrote.
Any orders that have been scheduled for dates after May 11 were canceled or the delivery was rescheduled. Anyone who had funds put aside in "MelonMoney" will no longer have access to those funds.
The company also used biodegradable plastic packaging, and informed customers that they could recycle the boxes and insulated liners, reuse the ice packs or dispose of the gel, turn liners into decking or use the boxes for storage or other uses.
PineMelon also shared a list of the Colorado makers whose products were featured by the delivery company, available here.
