With the IPL 2025 schedule out for the remaining matches, the focus shifts to the India A squad for the series against England Lions. India A team will play two matches against England Lions and one against the India senior squad, starting May 30. While domestic performers not in IPL 2025 will make the squad for the 1st match on May 30, Ishan Kishan is likely to return after a long absence. The 14-member squad is set to be announced in 24 hours.

Since the South Africa tour in 2023, Ishan has been out. He was dropped from the Test squad, and Dhruv Jurel preferred him over him. However, in England, Ishan could make a comeback as BCCI scrambles to pick the squad for the 1st unofficial Test. Ishan, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, will complete his formalities on May 25. Jurel will also be available after finishing Rajasthan Royals’ last match on May 20.

India A squad for 1st unofficial Test

With Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar injured, they will miss the 1st unofficial Test. That opens up a possibility for Ishan and other players. Ishan scored 176 runs in 6 innings in Ranji Trophy and 316 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Bengal’s Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to lead the side. Apart from him, Tanush Kotian, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj and Manav Suthar are all set to travel for the first match.

While Shardul Thakur is also among the names, his availability will depend on Lucknow Super Giants’ fate in IPL 2025. If LSG qualify for the playoffs, Shardul and Akash Deep could miss out. Karun Nair could also face a similar situation with Delhi Capitals still in the race for the playoffs. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who slammed a century in Australia, will travel with the first batch.

However, Sarfaraz Khan, who is nursing an injury, won’t travel with India A squad. Instead, he will travel with the senior men’s squad if he recovers in time. Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal are also currently injured and could miss the entire tour. Patidar has a finger injury, while Padikkal is ruled out of IPL with a hamstring injury.

India A squad for 2nd unofficial Test

With the 2nd unofficial Test starting on June 6, all the players will be free as the IPL 2025 final is set for June 3. Sai Sudharsan, who is set to miss the 1st unofficial Test as Gujarat Titans are a win away from the playoffs, will join the India A side in Northampton. Mohammad Shami could also feature in one of the matches.

The senior men’s squad will travel to England around June 10. The India A tour is important for Test hopefuls like Sudharsan, Easwaran, apart from Shardul and Nair who are aiming to return to the India Test squad for the England series.
