Step into the ring at the Comic-Con Museum‘s newest exhibit, “Sangre, Sudor, y Mito: The Art and Tradition of Mexican Lucha Libre,” opening Thursday, May 22, in Balboa Park.

Created in collaboration with the Museo de La Lucha Libre Mexicana in Tijuana and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, the bilingual showcase explores the history, artistry and cultural significance of Mexican wrestling.

The exhibit, which translates to “blood, sweat and myth,” features authentic masks, costumes, collectibles and tributes to legendary luchadores including women warriors known as “Amazonas.”

To kick off the celebration, a free, family-friendly Lucha Fest will take place Saturday, May 17, from 12 to 6 p.m. at The Soap Factory in Logan Heights. The event includes live wrestling matches, local food, music, kids’ activities and a mural unveiling to honor San Diego luchador Rey Misterio.

The exhibit runs at the Comic-Con Museum, Thursday through Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets and more information are available at comic-con.org/museum.
