Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar is headed back to the majors for the second time, and his MLB Pipeline ranking on Sunday rose to No. 4 thanks to his sensational play in Triple-A Reno.
Only the Boston Red Sox’s Roman Anthony, Pittsburgh Pirates’s Bubba Chandler and San Diego Padres’ Leo De Vries are rated higher.
In the MLB Pipeline in-season ranking released last August, Lawlar came in at No. 9.

The versatile Lawlar, who has been primarily playing shortstop for the Aces, was recently named the PCL Player of the Month in April.
In that month’s 25 games, Lawlar had a .408 batting average and .487 on-base percentage and led the Pacific Coast League in runs scored (31), hits (42), extra-base hits (21) among other categories.
Overall this season, the 22-year-old has produced a .336 batting average, 31 RBIs, a .992 OPS and 23 extra-base hits (six home runs).
Lawlar has also stolen 13 bases while only being caught in the act once.
With the call up, the Diamondbacks announced that infielder Garrett Hampson has been designated for assignment.

A pair of Diamondbacks outfielders, Slade Caldwell (No. 99) and Ryan Waldschmidt (No. 100) occupied the final two spots on the list.
It is the first time either has broken into the top 100.
Caldwell, an 18-year-old out of Arkansas’ Valley View High School, is getting reps with Single-A Visalia. In 29 games, the lefty batter and thrower has a .304 batting average, .492 on-base percentage and 23 runs scored on 28 hits and 29 walks.
MLB.com’s scouting bio of the 5-foot-9 Caldwell compared him to Corbin Carroll due to his “lightning-quick” speed.
Waldschmidt, also drafted by Arizona in 2024, competed at Kentucky after one season with College of Charleston and is currently with High-A Hillsboro. In 32 games, the 6-foot-2 former catcher has slashed .286/.465/.495 with 30 hits (105 at-bats), 11 extra-base hits (five home runs) and 30 walks.
The D-backs selected Waldschmidt 31st overall with a Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI) pick they earned because of Carroll winning NL Rookie of the Year in 2023.
Here’s what MLB’s Sam Dystra had to say about the prospects:
Caldwell falls in line with Arizona’s penchant for smaller left-handed-hitting outfielders, and the first-rounder has been an on-base machine in his early days with Single-A Visalia, perfect for a player with plus-plus speed. ACL recovery slowed Waldschmidt in his final season at Kentucky, but he caught fire late and looked like an outfielder with above-average hit and power tools. Back to full health with High-A Hillsboro, that reputation has carried into pro ball with a solid approach and slugging results.
