Roosevelt 17, Greeley West 4, 5 inn., in Greeley: Roosevelt had big bursts of offense every other inning to comfortably claim this nonleague win. The Rough Riders out-hit Greeley West 15-4. Junior Kayden Bryant led Roosevelt, hitting 2 for 3 with four RBI, three runs and a triple. Junior Mason Sauer added thee RBI and two runs on 1-for-2 hitting. Rough Riders sophomore Jack Sansone pitched all five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out 11 and walking three. Sophomore Isaiah Preciado recorded Greeley West’s only RBI, hitting 1 for 2 with a run. Roosevelt improved to 15-5, while the Spartans fell to 6-17 to end its season.

Eaton 5, Resurrection Christian 2, at Butch Butler: Eaton stayed one step ahead of fellow Class 3A contender Resurrection Christian throughout this marquee league affair. Juniors Liam Whalen and Vinnie Juarez led the Reds, as each drove in two RBI and connected on one hit. Eaton junior Gunnar Garrison pitched all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Cougars senior Vincent Fuller hit 2 for 3 with two RBI, a run, a double and a home run. The Reds improved to 16-6 overall, 7-3 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. Resurrection Christian fell to 13-8, 6-4.

Valley 2, Weld Central 1, in Gilcrest: Valley prevailed in this pitchers duel to improve to 11-11 overall, 4-6 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. After a scoreless first three innings, the two teams traded runs in the fourth. One inning later, the Vikings went ahead 2-1 and were able to clamp down on Weld Central the rest of the way. Senior Anthony Soliz and junior Trent Mestas had one RBI apiece for Valley. Junior Lucas Johann drove in the Rebels’ only run. Soliz pitched all seven innings for the Vikings, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out eight and walking one. Sophomore Luke Witzel went the distance for Weld Central, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out seven and walking two. The Rebels fell to 7-15, 0-10.

Resurrection Christian 7, Basalt 1, at Butch Butler: Resurrection Christian bounced back from a loss to Eaton moments earlier. The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. They added an insurance run in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Senior Vincent Fuller led the way, hitting 2 for 4 with three RBI, a run and a home run. Senior Graham Riggs pitched five innings for Resurrection Christian, allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out four and walking one. The Cougars improved to 14-8.

Platte Valley 2, Forge Christian 0, in Kersey: Platte Valley picked up a huge win to end its regular season, handing Forge Christian (19-3) just its third loss of the season. The Broncos recorded the game’s only two runs in the first inning. Senior Dagan Gomez and freshman Cooper Moffatt had one RBI apiece. Gomez went 2 for 3 with a double. Gomez also pitched a seven-inning gem. He allowed no runs on three hits, striking out five and walking three. Platte Valley improved to 14-9.

Track and field

Local teams compete, in Longmont: Numerous local teams were among the huge 107-team field during the HOKA St. Vrain Invitational at Everly-Montgomery Field. Windsor junior Kiana Cumings continued her excellent season, placing first in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 53.89 seconds. The Wizards team of senior Madelyn Von Tersch, Cumings, junior Maya Brasch and senior Lindsey Hinson won the girls 800 relay (1:37.91). That same quartet won the girls 1,600 relay (3:51.34).

Roosevelt junior Braelyn Bailey won girls high jump (5′ 6″). Her Rough Riders teammate Taegan Olson won girls pole vault (12′ 4″) by a foot. University senior Nicholas Rothe won boys pole vault (16′ 1″). Eaton sophomore Delaney Reuter was second in the girls 800 (2:14.72). Windsor’s quartet of Brasch, Hinson, senior Caidin Steel and junior Olivia Cruz was second in the girls 400 relay (48.57).

Baseball

Greeley Central wins two, at Butch Butler: Greeley Central flexed its offensive muscles to win both games of a league doubleheader against rival Northridge, 14-11 and 11-1 in six innings. The Wildcats trailed the first game early, 6-2 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the third. In fact, Greeley Central scored multiple runs in all but one of its offensive innings. Freshman Angel Lopez-Meza led the way, hitting 3 for 3 with four RBI, two runs, two doubles and a triple. The Wildcats led Game 2 from the second inning on. Junior Lalo Meza-Velazquez hit 1 for 3 with three RBI for Greeley Central. Lopez-Meza pitched all six innings for the Wildcats, allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out six and walking one. Greeley Central snapped a 15-game losing streak and improved to 3-19 overall, 2-13 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Northridge concluded its season at 1-22, 0-16.

Windsor 15, Skyline 0, 4 inn., in Windsor: Windsor punished Skyline over the course of this lopsided nonconference affair. The Wizards out-hit the Falcons 16-1 and had no errors, compared to three for Skyline. Three Windsor players had three RBI apiece — junior Chris Valerio, senior Eastin Hubbard and senior Izaak Haro. Hubbard and Haro each had a home run. Junior Wyatt Gustafson pitched all four innings for the Wizards, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out six and walking none. He allowed just one batter more than the minimum. Windsor improved to 16-6 overall.

Roosevelt 4, Timnath 0, in Johnstown: Roosevelt picked up this quality league win to extend its win streak to three games. The Rough Riders out-hit Timnath 8-3. Three Roosevelt players had one RBI apiece — juniors Mason Sauer, Brady Mylander and Israel Castillo. Mylander also pitched all seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out 14 and walking three. The Rough Riders improved to 16-5 overall, 13-1 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

Eaton 14, Basalt 4, 5 inn., in Eaton: Eaton capped its regular season with a sixth consecutive win, improving to 17-6 overall. Junior Vinnie Juarez led a balanced Reds offense, hitting 1 for 2 with two RBI, a triple and a run. He was one of seven Eaton batters to record a RBI. Reds junior Austin Edelmon pitched four of five innings, allowing one earned run on one hit, striking out six and walking four.

Dayspring Christian 11, Denver Academy 0, 6 inn., in Denver: Dayspring Christian completely dominated this league match to extend its win streak to eight games and lock up a league title. The Eagles out-hit Denver Academy 9-2 and had one error, compared to four for the Mustangs. Senior Josiah Rodriguez led Dayspring Christian, hitting 1 for 4 with three RBI, two runs and a double. Sophomore Gavin Bohl and senior Kai Polk had two RBI apiece. Polk doubled and tripled. Sophomore Owen Steward pitched all six shutout innings for the Eagles, allowing two hits, while striking out nine and walking two. Dayspring improved to 18-3 overall, 8-1 in 2A Mile League play.

Highland 10, Liberty Common 4, in Ault: Highland wrapped up its regular season by extending its win streak to six games. The Huskies shook off a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the third, two in the fifth and five in the decisive fifth inning. Senior DJ Rogers went 2 for 4 with four RBI, a run and a double for Highland. Junior Stetson Hendren went 2 for 4 with three RBI, three runs and a double. The Huskies improved to 17-5-1 overall.

Fort Lupton 10, Lincoln 9, 8 inn., in Denver: Fort Lupton put forth a consistent offensive attack to claim this tight nonleague affair. Trailing 5-1 through two innings, the Bluedevils scored two runs in the top of the third and three more in the fifth to climb back into this game. Trailing 8-7 through six innings, Fort Lupton scored a run in the top of the seventh to force an extra inning. The Bluedevils scored two runs in the top of the eighth, and Lincoln responded with just one run. Junior Josiah Gonzales led the steady Fort Lupton offense, hitting 5 for 5 with five runs and three doubles. Senior Jesse Ceretto went 4 for 5 with two runs, a RBI and a triple. Senior Julian Arreguin hit 1 for 5 with three RBI and a run. The Bluedevils improved to 8-14 overall.

Track and field

Roosevelt hosts Last Chance meet, in Johnstown: Roosevelt welcomed 79 other schools, many being local, to its home track for the Teddy’s Last Chance Qualifier. Among a slew of local first-place finishes, Windsor junior Kiana Cumings won the girls 100-meter dash in 12.01 seconds, one spot ahead of her junior teammate Maya Brasch (12.14). Prairie junior Hannah Kugler won girls high jump (5′ 3″).

Roosevelt senior Taegan Olson won girls pole vault (12′ 6″). Resurrection Christian freshman Lincoln Fagerlin won the boys 800 (1:54.58). Roosevelt sophomore Owen Hays won the boys 110 hurdles (14.53) and the 300 hurdles (37.99). His senior Rough Riders teammate Jayden Nohr won boys long jump (22′ 6″).

Highland tests itself, in Westminster: Highland’s girls were 11th (19) out of 24 teams, while its boys placed 19th (11) out of 27 teams during the the Maxine Ehrman Invitational, hosted by Thornton at North Stadium. Huskies junior Abbie Martinez won the girls 100 (13.15). Highland was third in the boys 800 relay (1:36.36).

Briggsdale, Pawnee compete, in Limon: Briggsdale and Pawnee were among the 51-team field in the 1A/2A Last Chance Qualifier, hosted by Limon. Senior Kaeden Gebauer led Briggsdale, placing sixth in the 200 (23.92), 11th in long jump (17′ 5.5″) and 14th in the 100 (12.37). Falcons senior Rosaley Torres was 12th in girls shot put (29′ 0.5″). Junior Elizabeth Baker was seventh for Pawnee in the girls 100 hurdles (18.11).
