TRAVELERS can skip long airport security lines with TSA PreCheck – and some flyers can get it for free.
The TSA PreCheck program usually costs $85 but travelers can skip the membership fee if they know where to look.

It launched in 2013 and lets travelers keep shoes, belts, and light jackets on while they go through TSA screening.
They also get to keep electronics and small liquids inside their bags, rather than taking them out.
Roughly 99% of PreCheck passengers clear security in under 10 minutes, according to TSA.
Membership usually costs around $85 and it lasts five years after your payment.
But what some travelers might not know is that they can get a membership for free if they have certain credit cards.
Dozens of credit card companies reimburse customers for the PreCheck fee as long as the card is used at checkout.
As of May 2025, TSA lists nearly 50 cards that offer a PreCheck benefit.
Most cards will issue a statement credit for the fee within two billing cycles after the payment is made.
The fee must be paid upfront before the refund kicks in.
Cardholders should also note the PreCheck benefit usually resets every four to five years.
Many of these cards also give the option to use the benefit on Global Entry instead, which includes PreCheck but focuses on speeding up entry into the US from abroad.
If you travel internationally, Global Entry may be the better deal, but you can’t claim both.
Some cards on TSA’s list come with no annual fees, including the American Airlines Credit Union Visa Signature, Arvest Visa Signature, and US Bank Altitude Connect.
Other cards carry annual fees of $95, like the Capital One Venture Card, Bank of America Premium Rewards Card, and Navy Federal’s Visa Signature Flagship Rewards.
Premium options include the American Express Platinum ($650 annual fee), the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550), and the Capital One Venture X Card ($395).
