When is the League Two Play-Off Final? Date and kick-off time as teams battle it out for Wembley promotion ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

The League Two Play-off Final is right around the corner as the last of the EFL promotion matches takes place at Wembley this month.

The 46-match slog in the fourth tier is among the most gruelling in the English football pyramid, with only four teams still fighting.

Division champions Doncaster Rovers, along with Port Vale and Bradford City, have earned promotion into League One.

Only one of Notts County, AFC Wimbledon, Chesterfield and Walsall can join them after successfully navigating the play-offs.

Home advantage hasn’t translated into fruitful results thus far, with both of the visiting semi-final first-leg teams claiming wins last week.

Wimbledon secured a narrow 1-0 victory away at Notts County, before former table toppers Walsall downed Chesterfield 2-0.

Both second-leg showdowns will be live and exclusive on the talkSPORT network ahead of the Wembley final later this month.

When is the League Two Play-off Final?

The 2024/25 League Two Play-Off Final will take place on Monday, May 26, at Wembley Stadium.

It is the third and final EFL promotion match to be staged at the national stadium, after the Championship and League One.

A kick-off time for the game is yet to be officially confirmed.

Last year’s big game was held on a Sunday at 1pm, while in 2023, the final was also on the second weekend day at 1:30pm.

What has been said?

Walsall’s head coach, Mat Sadler, heaped praise on his side’s ‘fighting performance’ to beat promotion rivals Chesterfield in the first-leg.

He said: “I thought we played well. I thought we started a little bit edgily and then grew into the game.”

“Listen, we’ve got a young team and these experiences that we’re going through together, they’re invaluable for everyone, the careers that we’re going to move forward with.”

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook added: “Walsall are in the ascendancy, without a shadow of a doubt.

“They’ve come here and they’ve done a really good job in the game.

“We huffed and we puffed and there were moments where we could have got back into it. It just didn’t happen for us and the crowd were brilliant, absolutely. I’ve loved every minute of the last few days and the atmosphere around the town and what it means to people.

“Unfortunately for us, our Achilles heel of giving poor goals away at home strikes again and all of a sudden the crowd were just a little bit subdued and rightly so.

“I don’t know how many attempts Walsall had, probably not many, but that’s football.

“The game is still alive and there’s so much to play for. The game was never going to be decided today. There’s still so much more football left in this game.”
