The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gas in San Diego County rose 1.7 cents Saturday to $4.791.

That’s the third straight day the price has increased by more than 1 cent.

The average price is 5.3 cents more than one week ago, but 8.6 cents less than one month ago and 49 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The price, however, is still far from a record $6.434 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price of gasoline is going in a different direction.

It dropped for the eighth time in nine days, decreasing six-tenths of a cent to $3.139. It is 3.1 cents less than one week ago, 8.3 cents less than one month ago and 49.7 cents less one year ago. The national record is $5.016, set on June 14, 2022.

State Senate minority leader Brian Jones, R-Santee, last month warned Californians to brace for higher gas prices and fuel shortages due to an impending oil refinery closure.
