If there’s anyone we can count on for solid and honest fashion advice, it’s Stacy London.
Lucky for Us, the What Not to Wear alum, who now stars on Prime Video’s Wear Whatever the F You Want show alongside Clinton Kelly, shared her insight on summer’s biggest trends.
London dished out simple style tips that will help you step up your daily outfits without breaking the bank. Some of them were surprising but refreshing, such as opting for a particular vibrant hue rather than season-typical pastels or earthy colorways. The expert also emphasized how a certain unexpected pattern is taking center stage, and it’s actually an easy print to incorporate into your everyday looks.
Another must-have style she spoke to is one that’s been all over the red carpet, and it reiterates the fact that, yes, less is more.
Last but far from least, she revealed to the cool-girl accessory that’s having a big-time resurgence and the forever iconic wardrobe must item will leave you effortlessly channeling Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis with a modern-day twist.
Without further ado, read on for everything the fashion expert had to say about the hottest trends for hot-weather days:
Blue Is the New Black
Hailey Bieber Photo by Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for Daily Front Row“All trends come back sooner or later,” London told Us, explaining that while “last year was all about red,” now we’re seeing a pivot towards “blue shades, including periwinkle, cornflower, azure and cobalt.” The reason? “Blues are generally flattering on all skin tones.”
For a chic, but statement-making getup in a cheerful shade, we’re coveting Mango’s Straight-fit Suit Jacket paired with the brand’s Straight Suit Trousers. (“I love a monochromatic, bright-colored look because it’s sophisticated without being the plethora of stealth wealth neutrals we’ve seen in the past few years,” she noted.)
And if you find the blue-on-blue too much, London suggested to “try [an accessory for] a pop of the color.” (To get the look, consider Coach’s Soho Flap Bag.)
It Print
Zoe Saldana Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images“Polka dots are everywhere and probably the easiest and most versatile geometric print there is,” London said. “There’s no [wrong] way to wear dots,” she said, so have fun with it!
Simply Sheer
Cara Delevingne hoto by Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images for National GeographicSheer is having a moment again, and London says the see-through fad “has a more minimal and architectural feel [similar to how it appeared] in the ’90s.” She loves The Frankie Shop’s designs, including the brand’s Peri Sheer Midi Skirt. When it comes to styling a transparent number, London advised wearing it with a “tucked-in collared shirt or tank.”
Precious Gems
Teyana Taylor Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for CinemaCon“Every year we hear the brooch is making a comeback,” the What Not to Wear alum quipped. “I think we are finally here.” And although we’ve seen a surge of them on recent red carpets, London has a savvy style hack if you’re interested in buying one that’s unique but still wallet-friendly: “Vintage brooches can be really inexpensive at flea markets.”
Iconic Accessory
Sabrina Carpenter Photo by Kristy Sparow/Getty Images for Vogue“The headscarf trend comes around year after year, but especially [during the warm weather months] when photos of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis [who’s widely credited with kicking off the timeless trend in the 1960s] start to surface,” London said.
Not sure how to put it on? It’s easier than you think. “Take a large square scarf and fold it into a triangle,” she explained. Then, “position it on top of your head, with the pointed edge facing backward, and either tie it behind your head or underneath your chin.” The style guru said a “light silk scarf” is a popular choice, and Sabrina Carpenter is jut the latest in a long line of proof.
