talkSPORT betting tips – Best boxing bets and expert advice for Anthony Cacace vs Leigh Wood ...Middle East

Leigh Wood takes on Anthony Cacace in front of a home Nottingham crowd on Saturday night and the fight should deliver a cracking domestic dust-up.

Cacace is the 4/9 favourite and takes the bout following an excellent success over Josh Warrington last year.

The IBO world super-featherweight title is on the line, and while that belt carries little weight, Wood is a genuine former world champion and is looking to get back to the pinnacle of the sport.

Anthony Cacace to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 5/2

Cacace can chop down Wood

Saturday night’s super-featherweight contest between Anthony Cacace and Leigh Wood may not carry the rivalry and history of the thrilling battle we witnessed between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr recently, but it’s an intriguing clash.

Wood is a former world champion, having won the WBA featherweight title when outpointing Mauricio Lara in 2023.

The Nottingham fighter also has excellent wins over Josh Warrington, Can Xu and Michael Conlon on his card and the contest with Conlon was a thrilling affair.

The 36-year-old is a good boxer, who carries respectable power, but it’s a wonder as to how much the former world champion has left to give at this stage of his career, and even when Wood was at his best, there was always a fair level of jeopardy.

Leigh-thal was hurt and beaten by Jazza Dickens in 2020, dropped by Conlon in 2022 and defeated by Lara in 2023.

Wood was cut in his most recent fight against Warrington and there is a 19-month absence for the former world champion to overcome on Saturday night. At his peak, the Nottingham fighter would be a huge threat in front of a home crowd, but the ship looks to have sailed.

Cacace is no new kid on the block as he is only six months younger than Wood, but the Belfast fighter is in the best form of his career.

The Apache dominated Warrington last time out and that success followed a stunning knockout victory over Joe Cordina to capture the IBF super-featherweight title.

The Belfast man did have some decent wins over Michael Magnesi and Sam Bowen earlier in his career, but the 36-year-old wasn’t expected to down Cordina.

The Welshman was an unbeaten world champion and heavy favourite for the Saudi Arabia battle last year, but that didn’t stop Cacace upsetting the odds.

The Belfast fighter is a 4/9 favourite on Saturday night and the fight betting looks a pretty accurate guide as to what might happen in the Nottingham ring.

However, there could be some value in backing Cacace to win by stoppage. Wood has been vulnerable to power throughout his career and the punch resistance may have completely gone following a long period of inactivity.
