News by : (The Denver Post) -

Two cars belonging to state legislators were vandalized Wednesday in the parking lot of the Colorado Capitol, police said.

Colorado State Patrol’s Executive Security Branch, which is responsible for security at the state capitol and the governor’s residence, was first notified of the damage done to the vehicles at about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the agency.

Cameras in the area captured a man throwing a rock through the window of Democrat Rep. Sean Camacho’s 2022 Rivian SUV at about 9:36 a.m. Wednesday, state officials said in the release. He then carved an expletive into the hood of a second car, a 2024 Ford Bronco about 90 feet away, belonging to Republican Sen. Bryon Pelton.

Investigators believe the two cars were randomly chosen, state patrol officials said.

After damaging both cars, the unidentified man left the Capitol Circle parking lot, walked west on East Colfax Avenue to Broadway and then north on Broadway until he left the camera’s range.

State patrol officials said he was wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored jacket and was carrying a tote shopping bag.
