The Instilling Goodness and Developing Virtue girls school at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Talmage recently received full accreditation for its K-12 instruction, school officials reported.
“We’re proud to announce that IGDVS has received full K-12 accreditation for six years; this marks the first accreditation for K-8, and reaccreditation for 9-12,” IGDVS Principal Jin Jr Jr. Shi announced. “This is a significant milestone, and a testament to the collective effort of our entire school community.”
Jin Jr Jr Shi shared the letter received from the Western Association of School and Colleges’ Accrediting Commission, which states that “the ACS WASC Commissioners have determined Instilling Goodness Developing Virtue School (K-12) meets the ACS WASC criteria for accreditation. This accreditation status is based on all of the information provided by the school, including the school’s report, and the satisfactory completion of the accreditation visit. (Therefore), it is the decision of the commission to grant six-year accreditation status through June 30, 2031, with a mid-cycle visit during the 2027-2028 school year.”
This week, Principal Jin Jr Jr. Shi addressed the Ukiah City Council after it declared the month of May as “Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month” at the beginning of its May 7 regular meeting.
After introducing the students standing beside her as “Asian American young women representing their rich heritage through traditional attire from China, India, Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam,” Jin Jr Jr. Shi described the founder of IGDVS as laying the eight core virtues of “kindness, filial piety, respect, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship, integrity and humility as the core values to nurture future generations.
“At IGDVS, we partner with Visit Ukiah to host this year’s Chinese New Year celebration that welcomed hundreds of community members in Ukiah, Mendocino County and beyond; we also coordinate about 500 students from local schools to join the annual Cherishing Youth Day, and we honor the elders of Ukiah on our yearly Honoring Elders Day.
“(Our) students, and the community, are enriched and moved by the kindred spirit of the Ukiah community through the participation in the many activities and events,” she concluded. “Ukiah soars from the generosity that each and every (person) offers in the city of Ukiah, (as) this spirit of giving ripples forth as we are leaders of embodied compassion, kindness, joy, and equanimity.”
