Reports stated that IPL 2025 could be postponed after the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off on Thursday (May 8) due to security reasons. The decision to stop the game was taken during the 11th over of Punjab Kings' innings as the players were asked to leave the field, while the fans were asked to vacate the stadium.
"Yes, the match has been called off as a precautionary step, because there are some incidents which happened in Jammu, I believe," said IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.
IPL 2025 to continue:
However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that no decision on the postponement of the tournament has been taken. Dhumal said that the BCCI is yet to receive any directive from the government so far.
Speaking further, Dhumal also confirmed that the match between Lucknow and Bengaluru would go ahead on Friday (May 9). The match is scheduled to be played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. However, Dhumal also stated that things could change in the coming hours as 'it is an evolving situation'.
Meanwhile, the players of Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will be evacuated from Dharamsala through a special train. The train will leave from Pathankot and will take the players, their family members and the support staff of both the teams to Delhi. The teams will travel to Pathankot by road.
The BCCI took the decision because the Dharamsala airport along with the nearby airports are closed due as part of precautionary measures.
