President Donald Trump is reportedly making plans to devise a presidential commission on college sports – though an exact timeline for the official announcement and enactment has not been revealed.
Nick Saban, who spoke with Trump at Alabama’s commencement last week, is expected to be named the co-chair of the presidential commission. Billionaire Cody Campbell, Texas Tech’s NIL collective founder, is to be named Saban’s co-chair according to a few reports.

— Front Office Sports (@FOS) May 8, 2025Specific details on the commission have not been revealed, but the group is expected to address the current chaotic landscape for college sports. This includes the transfer portal, roster limits, eligibility, conference makeups and, of course, payment to players through NIL funding.
Saban being named to this commission would be an interesting choice. Of course, Saban is perhaps the greatest college football coach of all time and has long voiced his displeasure with the current state of college athletics, specifically related to student athletes being considered employees more and more with every passing year.
At the 2023 Spring meetings Saban spoke out about the current “pay-for-play” model of college sports, insisting that it would be the end of college football and other college sports as we know it.
