The incident, which took place on the I-80 near San Francisco, California, was spotted by California Highway Patrol (CHP), resulting in officers chasing down the rider as they fled on the interstate.
Authorities added that they rushed to the scene after receiving reports of “inappropriate riding activities.”
Officers then saw the black and purple Kawasaki performing an alleged wheelie, forcing them to attempt to stop the rider.
Authorities told KRON4: “As CHP personnel positioned themselves strategically in the area and monitored the improper driving behavior of one of the riders within the group, a black Kawasaki motorcyclist was observed actively performing ‘a wheelie’ on I-80 eastbound, entering the I-880 southbound transition ramp.”
Police, who used their motorcycle unit to chase down the suspect, activated lights and sirens before pulling alongside.
However, the suspect allegedly pulled off the freeway and failed to stop.
Police later said the rider eventually “made the right choice and pulled over before he or someone else could have potentially been hurt.”
They added: “Red lights and sirens from a police vehicle or police motorcycle require all drivers of any vehicle to yield to the right and stop.
“This is not a suggestion. What may have resulted in a minor traffic infraction and citation has now been escalated to a more serious offense based on the actions of this individual.”
The Kawasaki was towed and brought to an impound yard.
Police said: “Our public roadways are not a place for these activities to occur at any time of the day or night.
“Your CHP San Francisco area personnel are committed to ensuring the safety of our roadways for all of the motoring public and will not tolerate improper driving behavior.
“Please drive responsibly.”

Motorcycle equipment tips
BEFORE saddling a motorcyle and taking to the streets, drivers should know exactly what equipment is necessary to stay safe.
It’s recommended that riders protect themselves as much as possible before they race down the highway alongside other cars.
This means that every driver should absolutely have a high-quality motorcycle helmet that fits perfectly.
It’s also crucial to try and cover as much skin as possible, so pants and a riding jacket should be worn at all times.
Cautious drivers can go the extra step by always keeping riding gloves on hand and by wearing boots on the road.
Cycle World puts it this way, “When you are trying to justify spending your money on gear, just ask yourself this question: What is that body part worth? And then spend accordingly.”
