Liverpool should release Trent Alexander-Arnold from his contract early, but only for the club’s sake.
That’s according to former Red Danny Murphy, who sees the benefit in keeping up relations with Real Madrid.

Destined to join Real Madrid, Los Blancos are keen to have the right-back signed for the start of the Club World Cup on June 14.
There’s a catch, though, as his and all players’ contracts run until June 30 if they have a summer expiration.
Madrid are understood to be willing to pay Liverpool a compensation fee so that Alexander-Arnold can appear, and Murphy thinks his old side have reason not to make things difficult.
“I wouldn’t be doing it for Trent, I’d be doing it for the good of the club,” the talkSPORT pundit said.
“If we’re going to get compensated to let him go a bit early and do him a favour they might come back to us later if they’ve got an interest in a player this summer or whatever, fair enough, scrub your own back.
“I wouldn’t be doing it to say, ‘we’ll look after you Trent you’re a good lad’ no, do what’s best for the club always.
“They’ll come to some sort of arrangement and get something out of them, I don’t see it being a big deal.”
Part of Madrid’s negotiations in recent years has been the insistence on maintaining cordial relationships with other clubs.
Reports in Spain claim that’s of paramount importance to Florentino Perez and chief scout Juni Calafat.
Perez and Madrid have been keen to keep channels open with rival clubs, although Paris Saint-Germain are the big exceptionGettyAnd it could also be beneficial to Liverpool, too, should they ever want to conduct a deal in the other direction.
One such example could be that of Aurelien Tchouameni, who was said to be in negotiations with Liverpool in 2022 before Madrid came in and took the player from Monaco.
The defensive midfielder has since fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu, and reports in Spain claim the club are now inviting offers for his signature.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s side won’t want to upset the Spanish giants, particularly given their interest in key midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
So strong had the claims from MARCA become that the Argentine himself was asked about Los Blancos’ interest and dismissed it.

The agent of Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was forced to clear up suggestions made that the Dutchman was eyeing a move to the Bernabeu as well.
“We would love him to join Real Madrid,” Jose Fortes Rodriguez told Spanish publication Marca.
“When Ryan was 16, Barca called us. They wanted to sign him, but his father and I prioritised his development.
“At Ajax, he was able to develop in a way that he possibly wouldn’t have at Barca.”
“He’s good enough for Real Madrid. We would love for him to play for them,” Rodriguez added.
Rodriguez later said: “I’m Spanish. It’s my dream club, not the dream club of Ryan.
“He is really happy, and if you ask Ryan, he will agree with you [that Liverpool are the biggest club in the world]. No stress, keep calm.”
