The Broncos will have a veteran quarterback in town this weekend on a tryout basis.

Desmond Ridder, a 2022 third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, is set to take part in the team’s rookie minicamp weekend as a tryout player, a source with knowledge of the arrangement confirmed Tuesday to The Denver Post.

Ridder, 25, started 48 games at the University of Cincinnati before being selected by the Falcons. He started 17 games over two seasons there and then spent 2024 with Las Vegas. There, he appeared in six games and started one.

Ridder has an 8-10 mark as a starter in the NFL and has thrown for 4,002 yards to go along with 16 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. He sports an 82.6 career passer rating and has also rushed for 293 yards and five touchdowns.

Teams can have veterans in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The Broncos in 2023 liked what they saw from quarterback Ben DiNucci, who had just come off a successful UFL season. They signed him to their 90-man roster and then carried him on the practice squad through the entire season.

It will be tougher for Ridder to make the roster, however. The Broncos, of course, are led by second-year starter Bo Nix and signed backup Jarrett Stidham to a two-year extension this summer. Then, in late March, the team signed Sam Ehlinger to a one-year deal, too. Denver carried three — Nix, Stidham and Zach Wilson — on the 53-man roster through the regular season last year.

The Broncos didn’t draft a quarterback this spring and aren’t known to have signed one as an undrafted free agent, either, but Ridder won’t be alone this weekend. Denver also has former Colorado and Princeton quarterback and Highlands Ranch native Blake Stenstrom in on a tryout.
