Harvard-Westlake School announced Monday that William Burr, who has won four straight CIF Southern Section titles, is the new head coach for its girls basketball program.

He will assume his new role immediately, according to a press release from the school.

“I am excited to join a program with such a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence,” Burr said in the press release. “I’m looking forward to building on that legacy, guiding our athletes to reach their greatest potential, and competing at the highest level with pride, purpose, and passion.”

The 2025 Daily News Coach of the Year has won CIF-SS championships the last four seasons, the last three at Oak Park.

This past season, he guided the Eagles to the Division 2AA championship. Oak Park defeated North Torrance with a team that had only six healthy players for most of the season.

Burr also won a CIF-SS Division 1 championship with Viewpoint in 2022 and is the founder of youth basketball program Triple Threat Hoops.

“We are excited to welcome William Burr to Harvard-Westlake to lead our girls’ basketball program,” said Terry Barnum, Head of Athletics at Harvard-Westlake, said. “He is a proven winner who knows how to inspire athletes to reach their full potential.”

Harvard-Westlake, one of the most successful girls programs in the state in recent decades, went 24-8 overall and 7-3 in league play in 2024-25 to finish as the Mission League runner-up behind unbeaten Sierra Canyon. The Wolverines fell in the CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinals to eventual champion Rancho Christian.

Alex Nailes was interim head coach for the season while also serving as an assistant coach with the boys program under head coach David Rebibo.

Longtime Wolverines head coach Melissa Hearlihy retired in early August 2024 after 39 total years of coaching.
