I Tried Paul Rudd’s Favorite Kansas City Sandwich, and It’s a BBQ Lover's Dream ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

In 2019, Rudd told Bon Appétit that the Z-Man sandwich from Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que is a “killer sandwich — maybe [his] favorite in the world.” Considering the star of Ant-Man and comedic actor grew up in Kansas City and is a die-hard Chiefs fan, we assume he’s eaten enough barbecue to know what’s worth obsessing over.

But what about that name? According to the restaurant's website, in the late 90s, radio host Mike Zarrick (aka The Z-Man) approached the owners of Joe's to see if they'd like to advertise on his new show. That conversation turned into a sandwich-naming contest among Zaririck's listeners. None of the fan-suggested names stuck, but enough customers heard about the sandwich on the radio that they came in and asked for 'that Z-Man sandwich,' and the rest is K.C. BBQ history.

Ingredients You Need to Make a Z-Man Sandwich

The Z-Man Sandwich is filled with some good stuff: bread (brioche buns, potato rolls, — whatever you enjoy), brisket, smoked provolone cheese, onion rings and barbecue sauce. You can layer in pickles, but I'm not a pickle fan, so I opted out of that ingredient. The Kansas eatery offers coleslaw and seasoned french fries on the side, which you can add if you'd like.

How to Make a Z-Man Sandwich

Stack the sliced brisket on the roll bottom, followed by the smoked provolone cheese (make sure the meat is hot so the cheese melts) and a few onion rings. Spread barbecue sauce on the roll top and then close the sandwich. You just made your version of a Kansas fan-favorite!

My Honest Review of the Z-Man Sandwich

My only regret? Not toasting the buns—I think that would've been a game changer. If you’re feeding a crowd for a Chiefs game (or just want to channel Paul Rudd), this sandwich is a must-try.
