Three people have been charged in connection with a body found burning under a Weld County bridge last month, district attorney officials said.

Isaac Valdez-Salvador, a 32-year-old man who was arrested in late April after he stopped with a flat tire on Interstate 25 near Mead and ran across the highway, faces six felony charges: first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, tampering with a body, second-degree motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding and tampering with physical evidence, according to a news release from the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

Valdez-Salvador is scheduled to appear in court for a disposition hearing on July 1.

Juana Espino, 37, was also charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, unlawful purchase of firearms and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies, according to the release.

Larimer County sheriff’s deputies and the Poudre Canyon Volunteer Fire Department responded on April 11 to reports of a fire under a bridge at the Stevens Gulch picnic area off of Colorado 14.

When they arrived, the crew found “an obviously deceased person” on fire under the bridge.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 49-year-old Gerardo Hernandez Lucio and said he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators said Lucio was killed in Weld County and had been dead for several days before his body was burned in Larimer County.
