DRS, May 5: Maxwell replacement from PSL, Parag’s IPL record & Mayank Yadav going Umran Malik way? ...Middle East

The 10th double-header day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was quite eventful. Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag broke an all-time record against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) Rishabh Pant and Mayank Yadav had a rough outing against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Speaking of Punjab, they just got a replacement for Glenn Maxwell. And guess what? They bagged a player from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), just like the Mumbai Indians (MI). Suryakumar Yadav is better than Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or MS Dhoni, according to a KKR pacer. And lastly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are thinking about taking Sai Sudharsan to England.

Sai Sudharsan, Rohit Sharma’s backup

After a solid Ranji Trophy performance and now his exploits in the IPL 2025 season, Sai Sudharsan has piqued the BCCI’s interest. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal remain as the regular openers, but the Indian board is looking to select the southpaw as the backup opener for the India vs England Test series. One mustn’t forget that Sudharsan played county cricket in 2023 and 2024.

After MI, PBKS gets player from PSL

PBKS have announced the replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder had fractured his finger and was ruled out of IPL 2025. Mitchell Owen, who’s currently playing in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi, will replace Maxwell. Fascinatingly, Owen came in as a replacement for Corbin Bosch, who had ditched Zamli for Mumbai Indians (MI).

Riyan Parag hits 6 consecutive sixes

Riyan Parag has become the first batter in the history of the IPL to hit 6 consecutive sixes. The RR captain had an incredible 95-run knock against KKR. At one point, he scored 36 runs from 6 balls. All the maximums came against spinners. 5 sixes off Moeen Ali and 1 off Varun Chakaravarthy.

Is Mayank Yadav going the Umran Malik way?

Mayank Yadav went for 60 runs against PBKS and didn’t take a wicket. One fears if he’s going the Umran Malik route. The speedster from Kashmir impressed in IPL 2022 but has played just 9 matches since. Umran’s speed never went down like Mayank’s, but the latter is struggling with his line and lengths like the former now. Troubling signs.

Rishabh Pant’s horror IPL 2025 continues

Rishabh Pant’s struggles continue. The LSG captain played another sluggish knock, scoring just 18 (17) against PBKS. But it wasn’t just his batting that was bad. His whole demeanour looked off. In the first innings, he was visibly irritated a lot of times. Shouted a few times as well. Struggling while batting, at one point he even scolded Ayush Badoni for not running non-existent singles.

Suryakumar Yadav over Rohit, Kohli or Dhoni

KKR pacer Vaibhav Arora feels that the toughest batter to bowl at in the IPL 2025 season is MI’s Suryakumar Yadav. Just recently, he broke the record for most consecutive scores of 25 or more. The 360-degree batter makes it incredibly tough for bowlers since they can’t set a particular field for him.
