News by : (The Denver Post) -

Spring storms forecast to hit Colorado this week could drop between 1 and 2 feet of snow in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snow will fall in elevations above 9,000 feet from Monday night through Tuesday night before tapering off Wednesday, NWS forecasters said.

Mountain towns above 7,000 feet can also expect snowy weather early this week, but forecasters said less accumulation is likely.

Between 18 and 24 inches of snow are forecast to fall in Rocky Mountain National Park and near Colorado Springs, according to NWS snow forecasts.

The Front Range and Eastern Plains won’t see snow, but instead will be hit by multiple rounds of rain showers and thunderstorms between Monday and Wednesday, forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook.

Forecasters said the first round of rain is likely to start in Denver after 11 a.m. Monday and showers will continue on and off until roughly 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Thunderstorms across the metro area and Eastern Plains are most likely between 1 p.m. Monday and 11 p.m. Tuesday, forecasters said.
