And sure, you can slice off that topknot and eat it as a snack, but what if we told you there was a simple, 3-second hack that would make sure your cakes bake up evenly and perfectly, sans dome every time? It's a much better way to be baking, and it doesn't require any extra equipment. Here's what you need to know.

In the Instagram post, Broussard demonstrates the trick: before sliding your filled cake pans into the oven, just give the pans a good spin on your counter. As you do, you can actually watch the batter settle more evenly, which will help discourage that infamous dome from forming. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it doesn’t involve soaking cake bands or dirtying a spatula to push batter to the edges. Plus, it looks pretty fun to do. Frankly, it’s the kind of trick that makes us wonder why nobody told us about this sooner.
Another user chimed in with a cheeky hack of their own "when none of the children are watching, take the cooled cake with a dome and lay a [serrated] knife on the sides of the cake pan and just cut that bad boy cake dome off. Rapidly cram it into your mouth. Repeat on both layers." Brilliant in and of itself, but Broussard's tip is a tidier (and more frosting-friendly) approach.
