‘Is this man OK?’ – Amir Khan stuns fans with bizarre reaction to Canelo Alvarez’s win over William Scull ...Middle East

Amir Khan believes William Scull defeated Canelo Alvarez by two rounds.

The British boxing icon’s reaction to the fight has left fans confused, as it’s so far off what many of them believe.

Canelo and Scull barely let their hands go in what was a dull encounter in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

The fight was so poor that it set a new record for the fewest punches thrown in a 12-round fight.

Nonetheless, Mexican superstar Canelo was awarded the unanimous decision win, and will now face Terence Crawford in a four-belt shootout come September in Las Vegas.

Former Team GB Olympic medallist Khan agreed that it wasn’t a great fight, but shocked fans when he revealed how he scored the bout.

“It wasn’t the prettiest and it could have gone either way,” he told Fight Hub TV.

“Because I probably had Scull winning by two rounds. I like Canelo, I think he’s a great fighter, and I think he was picking the shots better and landing the cleaner shots.

“Canelo was marked up a little bit, but look it could’ve went either way.

“Regardless of how the fight went, it was a great performance from both fighters, but it’s made a bigger fight happen now with Canelo and Crawford.”

Khan then asserted Scull was running away from Canelo, but still believes either man could’ve picked up the victory.

“Scull wasn’t really standing and exchanging with Canelo – he was running all the time,” the 38-year-old added.

“Some judges don’t like to see that, fans don’t like to see that, but he was making him miss and countering Canelo, so it could’ve gone either way.”

Fans were quick to react to Khan’s words, with many in agreement on the same thing.

One replied: “Great performance by both fighters? Is this man OK?”

While a second added: “Scull didn’t come to fight.”

A third jokingly said: “He is still dizzy from Canelo’s knockout,” and a fourth responded: “Both guys didn’t want to win this fight.”

Khan was knocked out by Canelo nine years ago in Las Vegas, and also lost to Crawford at Madison Square Garden in April 2019, before laying down the gloves three years later after he was defeated by rival Kell Brook.

Crawford is moving up two divisions to fight Canelo at his natural weight without a rehydration clause, but Khan doesn’t think this will prove too much of an advantage for the Mexican king.

“You need more than size and weight,” he added, assessing Canelo vs Crawford.

“You need the right box IQ, you need to be smart, and someone like Canelo fighting against Crawford, you need more than power and speed – you need everything.

“Because this is going to be the two best pound-for-pound fighters fighting each other.

“Even though Crawford is going to be giving away a lot of weight, I think it could go either way.”

If Crawford defeats Canelo he will remarkably become the first three-weight undisputed champion since the WBO was recognised as a major sanctioning body.
