Terry was on the touchline for Orient’s 3-1 win at Huddersfield on Saturday in their bid to finish in the League One play-offs.

Richie Wellens is normally the head coach but his suspension meant he watched the match in the director’s box instead.

And in closing moments of the first half, Orient lost another one of their coaching team following a short tussle by their dugout.

Huddersfield won a throw-in and striker Joe Taylor retrieved the ball to take it but was stopped in his tracks.

Terry stood the way of the Terriers star in a decision that backfired as referee Dean Whitestone showed him a red card.

The 46-year-old made his way down the tunnel at the John Smith’s Stadium with very little protest towards his dismissal.

Orient won all of their last five League One matches to put them in firm contention of finishing in the promotion play-off spots.

Dan Agyei got them off to a brilliant start by scoring with two minutes on the clock aheads of an own-goal from Jacob Chapman.

Josh Koroma pulled one back for Huddersfield moments before Terry was sent off, but Agyei netted again at the start of the second half.

Azeem Abdulai scored their fourth and final goal of the afternoon to keep their promotion dreams alive.

Orient have finished sixth in League One and will face third-placed Stockport County in the play-offs.

They were playing in the National League as recently as 2019 but have since risen from League Two and into the third tier.

This season’s League One play-offs will also see Wycombe Wanderers take on Charlton Athletic.

Birmingham City won the title last month before making EFL history by winning the most points of any team in a single season with 108.

Their 2-1 draw at Cambridge United on Saturday has therefore taken them to 111, 19 points ahead of second-place Wrexham.
