Everyone knows her name.
Candace Parker is an icon in basketball circles.
Parker won her first championship with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016GettyThe three-time WNBA champion and two-time MVP had a storied professional career that saw her cement her status as one of the greatest to ever do it.
Parker has taken the success that she had on the court and is now maximizing her brand and value off of it.
Upon her retirement in 2024 after a 16-year career in the WNBA, the accomplished star was named Adidas’ new president of women’s basketball.
Parker and Adidas had a working relationship going back to 2010, when she became the first woman to have a signature basketball shoe with the iconic brand.
She has now been running the show for them on their women’s basketball side for over a year.
“I said to [Adidas], ‘I don’t want to be a mascot,'” Parker told Fast Company at the time of the announcement.
“I really want to be in the meetings, and I want to be a part of making decisions.”
The company is currently worth an estimated $37 billion.
However, the Three Stripe Life isn’t the only thing that consumes Parker’s time.
She has seen her broadcasting career take off in the last few years.
Parker has become a recognizable voice and face on the TNT crewGetty Parker built her legacy with the Sparks, where she played for 13 seasonsGetty The WNBA legend has found just as much success off the courtGettyParker joined the TNT crew during the 2018-19 NBA season and can be heard calling games and breaking it down in the studio.
She has thrived on the mic so much that it has been reported Amazon has hired Parker to be on their broadcast roster for both NBA and WNBA games when they begin their coverage next season.
The NBA and Amazon Prime Video announced an 11-year media rights agreement, beginning next year.
Steve Nash, Dwyane Wade, Blake Griffin, and Dirk Nowitzki have all been reported as joining the Amazon team.
This new role will only add to Parker’s impressive net worth.
Forbes currently has it at $8.1 million.
That all comes mostly through her lucrative contract with Turner Sports along with her brand partners, such as Adidas, CarMax and Gatorade.
To put it all into perspective, Parker was only making around $100k per year in the WNBA following her first overall selection by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2008 WNBA Draft.
After 13 seasons with the Sparks, and one title, she moved to Chicago for a season, picking up another ring before a two-year spell in Las Vegas with the Aces that yielded a third chip.
And while the salaries have increased since her retirement, it is still nowhere close to what she is making now.
Rarely do legends of a sport find greater success away from their playing career.
But in Parker’s case, that just may be so.
And she isn’t close to slowing down anytime soon.
