BELLFLOWER – St. John Bosco got a two-run home run from second baseman Jaden Jackson in the sixth inning and five scoreless innings from pitcher Noah Everly in a 2-0 win over JSerra in the teams’ final Trinity League game Friday.

The Braves (22-4, 14-1) had already secured first place and the Trinity League title coming into the game, and finished league play on a high note against the struggling Lions (10-15, 5-10).

The game was a pitchers’ duel for most of the day, as Everly and JSerra starter Jax Janeski kept the opposing bats quiet through five innings.

Janeski began the sixth inning having held St. John Bosco to one hit, but surrendered an infield leadoff single to James Clark.

Then Jackson, who had been struggling recently at the plate, drove a ball to deep left field that cleared the fence for a two-run home run to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth.

That would be all the runs the Braves would need, as reliever Brayden Krakowski threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts to get the save for St. John Bosco.

With the game in the sixth inning, Jackson said he was thinking “we have to get something rolling, got to (make) something happen. As soon as I saw James (Clark) come up and get on, I know what I had to do from here. (It) was an outside fastball and I stayed on it.”

Braves coach Andy Rojo spoke very highly of Jackson coming through in that moment and his overall talent.

“He’s a special talent, he’s got lightning in those hands,” Rojo said. “He’s got absolute man strength.

“He’s just a really special talent and he got rewarded today,” Rojo continued. “He’s been grinding these last three or four games, and I’m really happy for him.”

Everly also had a big game for St. John Bosco as he was the starting pitcher and batted third in the lineup. He was 1 for 3 at the plate. He threw five shutout innings with five strikeouts, allowed just two hits and one walk.

He got into a jam in the top of the fourth inning after surrendering a leadoff double to Lions first baseman Shane D’Arcy and then issuing a walk to third baseman Jordan Marian.

However, Everly stayed calm and poised and struck out the side to end the inning and keep JSerra scoreless.

“All of my pitches were working,” said Everly. “This is probably my best outing (this season). I had all three of my pitches commanding the (strike) zone and I was locked in the whole time I was pitching.”

The Lions’ Janeski pitched six innings, allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

St. John Bosco will play its final regular-season game Wednesday against Torrance. The CIF-SS playoff pairings will be released May 12.
