On Friday, May 2, the USPS revealed a collection of Forever Stamps based on artwork from the classic novel written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd would finally be available to purchase during a special event at The Rabbit hOle, a museum that brings to life a century of American children's literature.
The new pane of stamps was designed by Derry Noyes, an art director for the Postal Service, using existing art created by Hurd, according to the release. It re-imagines several themes in the book–which has sold more than 48 million copies since its debut in 1947–as standalone artistic illustrations, including a near-replica of the novel's Great Green Room.
Goodnight Moon Stamps Available Today"I'm sure Margaret and Clem would have loved the beautifully designed stamps created byDerry Noyes and USPS," children's book creator and son of the Goodnight Moon illustrator Thacher Hurd said in a statement.
Each sheet of Goodnight Moon postage includes 16 stamps that are issued as Forever stamps and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price. Those looking to score a pane or two can find the Goodnight Moon collection at their local post office or online ($11.68 per sheet). It's currently unclear how long the special Forever Stamp collection will be around.
