The Arizona Diamondbacks appear likely to have their star second baseman back, with Ketel Marte traveling to Philadelphia before their series opener Friday against the Phillies.
He’s missed the past four weeks with a hamstring injury.
“It’s the worst-kept secret in baseball: Ketel sent out (on social media) that he’s on his way to Philly, and I have no problem with that,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio. “It’s not very vague. We know the reason why he’s here. He’s not going to Philly to see the Liberty Bell for crying out loud. He’s coming here to play some baseball.
“I know the guy that makes the lineups. There’s a really good chance he’s going to be playing second base (Friday).”
“There's a really good chance [Ketel Marte] is going to be playing second base tonight."

How did Ketel Marte fare before his hamstring injury?
The switch-hitter suffered a strained left hamstring running the bases on April 4 at the Washington Nationals. He had only played eight games before hitting the IL, slashing .346/.469/.462 with three doubles to start the year.
Marte crushed the ball during extended spring training outings at Salt River Fields, as he’ll return without a rehab assignment at a minor league affiliate.
The lineup without Marte has had ups and downs, receiving great production from the top of the order.
Corbin Carroll (.958 OPS), Geraldo Perdomo (.846), Pavin Smith (1.074) and Josh Naylor (.900) have each hit a groove early, and Marte’s return improves the lineup depth while adding a thumper to drive in runs against lefties and righties.
Marte hit 36 home runs last year with 95 RBIs, hitting .292 with an OPS of .932. He finished third in the MVP race and won his first Silver Slugger award as the top-hitting second baseman in MLB.
He was quite good against righties with an .841 OPS, but he terrorized lefties at 1.080. One of the D-backs’ shortcomings on offense this season has been production against southpaws, which Marte should improve.
Marte also rejoins the club coming off back-to-back wins at Citi Field against the New York Mets. The D-backs are in the midst of a loaded schedule against NL contenders, facing the Phillies, Mets, Dodgers and Giants over the next couple of weeks.
