DENVER (KDVR) -- On Friday, Zachary Kwak, 20, will be sentenced as one of three people responsible for the deadly rock-throwing spree that killed 20-year-old Alexa Bartell.
Kwak, who was in the car during the incident, pleaded guilty in May 2024 to one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and an added count of criminal attempt to commit assault.
First responder speaks out after verdict in rock throwing deathAs part of the plea deal, previous charges were dismissed, and he will serve no less than 20 years but no more than 32 years.
Starting at 8:30 a.m., the sentencing will take place.
On the night of April 19, 2023, three high school students were throwing landscaping rocks at passing cars in Jefferson County. Bartell was driving by the teens when a rock went through her windshield, hitting her in the head and killing her.
The three 18-year-olds were charged, and all either pleaded guilty or were found guilty by a jury for their roles in the deadly incident.

Karol-Chik was sitting in the front seat of the truck when the deadly rock was thrown.
Joseph Koenig, the driver and the one to throw the rock, was found guilty of first-degree murder, along with 18 additional charges, by a jury in April. His sentencing is set for June 3.
