Some of Colorado’s best breweries continued to show why they lead the pack on Thursday during the World Beer Cup awards at the Craft Brewers Conference in Indianapolis, Ind.
Seventeen beer makers took home 21 awards in a wide variety of categories, from light lagers to bold barleywines, IPAs and witbiers. There were 112 beer-style categories in all.

This year, there were 265 beer judges from 37 countries who tried 8,375 beers from 1,761 breweries in 49 countries.
For Colorado, the biggest winner was Denver’s River Borth Brewery, which continued a hot streak of awards by winning three awards on Thursday. But Verboten Brewing in Loveland and Lafayette-based Westbound & Down Brewing won two each. Blue Moon Brewing, a division of Coors, also took home two awards in the same year it closed its flagship brewpub in Denver.
There were six first-time winners: New Terrain Brewing in Golden; Wibby Brewing in Longmont; Stodgy Brewing and Mythmaker Brewing, both in Fort Collins; Best Day Brewing; and Mash Lab Brewing in Windsor. Since 1996, Colorado has averaged 20 medals per World Beer Cup, according to the Colorado Brewers Guild. The state won 21 in 2024 as well.
