Depending on your interests, this might just be any other weekend. But for Star Wars fans and those who like a good cocktail-focused holiday, the force is coming on strong this San Diego weekend.

Cinco de Mayo, of course, is Monday, but obviously one cannot waste a perfectly good Friday, Saturday and Sunday leading into it:

Memorial Community Park – The Cinco de Mayo Carnival continues in Logan Heights at 5 p.m. Friday, then opens at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. With live music, rides and games. Old Town – Head to Fiesta de Reyes in the historic state park for live music, Mexican street food stations and, at times, face painting. Opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday and Monday. Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town – Casa Guadalajara also hosts festivities Saturday through Monday. Sister restaurants Casa de Pico in La Mesa and Casa de Bandini in Carlsbad offer up music and margaritas those same days too. Gaslamp Quarter – Cinco de Mayo in the Gaslamp opens at 11 a.m. Saturday off Fifth Avenue and Market Street with Lucha Libre wrestling, over 60 low riders, a block dedicated to dogs in festive fashion – chihuahua races too – and two stages. Seaport Village – with dancing, live music and Mariachi bands; opens at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, SeaWorld San Diego kicks off its Viva la Música fest Saturday, continuing on weekends through May 18. La Sonora Dinamita performs Saturday, and the SoCal Taco Fest follows Sunday. The fest is included in park admission, starting at $90 this weekend.

Another of our top attractions, the San Diego Zoo, hosts an evening of Food, Wine & Brew at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with up to 150 vendors offering tasty bites and sips. Tickets start at $179.

San Diego really doesn’t need a movie or drinking holiday to raise a cold one. Kilowatt Brewing in Kearny Mesa combines its 10th anniversary party with AAPI Convoy Nights at 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event includes specialty beer releases, food trucks, a car show and performances that honor Asian American and Pacific Islander culture.

May the Fourth … what’s that sound like? Your favorite Star Wars fan can help. But first, for an irreverent take, there’s “Galactic Garters,” billed as a burlesque parody of the space classic, at 7 p.m. Saturday. Head to Queen Bee’s Banquet Hall in North Park.

Here’s more wholesome ways to tap into the force on Sunday:

North City in San Marcos – the nonprofit Craft Collective partners at 2 p.m. to create the Padawan Crafting Academy, Jedi Training Grounds and North City Cantina (IYKYK). Costumes, naturally, will be smiled upon. North Park – Original 40 Brewing Company’s Skywalker Soiree starts at 1 p.m. with a costume contest and specialty beers, including the blue-colored Dagobah Swamp Sour. Raffle prizes, naturally, are Star Wars themed. Gaslamp Quarter –  The Smoking Gun hosts Star Wars Themed Trivia at 7 p.m., also with themed prizes.

The spring edition of the all-day Carlsbad Village Street Faire opens at 8 a.m. Sunday with a huge array of booths and activities, including arts and crafts, antiques, an international food court, children’s rides, live entertainment and more.

We all take good care of our pets, but wildlife needs love too. The Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista hosts its Animals on the Bay Day at 10 a.m. Sunday with chances to see eagles, sea turtles, sharks, rays and more. Enjoy a scavenger hunt and crafts too. Admission costs $5.
