Girls lacrosse roundup: Canyon wins CIF-SS playoff game in 2OT ...Middle East

Ainsley Jackson scored the game-winning goal in double overtime for Canyon in a 13-12 victory over Chaminade in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 girls lacrosse playoffs Thursday.

Jackson, a Colorado State Pueblo signee, scored five goals and so did Maddie Perales.

Sofia Timpane had 11 saves for Canyon (11-10), including three during overtime.

Canyon beat Woodbridge in the first round Monday and will play St. Margaret’s in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

In other playoff games Thursday:

Division 2:

St. Margaret’s 14, San Marcos 9: Scarlett Welsome had eight goals, three assists and four ground balls for St. Margaret’s (13-3).

Grace Burke had five assists and two goals for the Tartans. Avery Smith had two goals and won 11 draws. Izzy Samluk led St. Margaret’s defense with four ground balls and three forced turnovers.

Kate Carr had five saves in the second half. The Tartans trailed 5-4 after one quarter but outscored San Marcos 4-1 in the second quarter to take the lead.

Corona del Mar 17, El Dorado 7: Rihanna Quinn had eight goals for Corona del Mar (13-7) in the dominant win.

Ashley Solarcyzck had four goals with three assists for CdM and Meg Vanis added three goals. Goalie Sofia Petek had 11 saves.

Reese Hernandez and Alyssa Baranick each had two goals for El Dorado (17-6).

Huntington Beach 8, Royal 7: Huntington Beach never led until it scored the game’s final goal in a home win over Royal of Simi Valley.

Lolo Pilkington led Huntington Beach (7-11) with four goals and had five draw controls. Abby O’Rourke had two goals for the Oilers and Summer Vandergrift won 11 draws. Elle Tran led the team with six ground balls.

Division 3:

Trabuco Hills 17, Mission Viejo 3: Addison Delaney had seven goals for Trabuco Hills in a rout of Mission Viejo.

Trabuco Hills was dominant at the dot with Sydney Lo winning 16 draws and tallying seven draw controls. Lydia Hurst had eight draw controls, three goals and four assists.

Maddi Wong had three goals with four assists. Sam Runders had a goal with four assists and Payton Burns had three saves.

The Mustangs will travel to play Cate of Carpinteria in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Aliso Niguel 18, Downey 13: Madison Almy had seven goals for Aliso Niguel in a high-scoring win over Downey.

Reagan Swindall led Aliso Niguel (13-7) in draw wins and Penelope Gundelman led the defense.

University 15, Sage Hill 8: University beat league rival Sage Hill to win its first CIF-SS playoff game in school history.

Yashika Singh and Ava Pattock each had five goals for University (17-5). Six different players scored goals for the Trojans, and the defense, led by Camille Ridder, Ella Martiny and Alexis Faceli, forced five turnovers.

Sughra Donwala and Julia Holmes both played goalie for University and combined to save 50 percent of Sage Hill’s shots. The Trojans will play Aliso Niguel in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
