Mike Peters, the celebrated lead singer of the Welsh rock band The Alarm, passed away at the age of 66 . Renowned for his anthemic tracks such as "Sixty Eight Guns" and "Strength," Peters played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of alternative rock during the 1980s . The Alarm achieved notable success in both the UK and US markets, selling over five million albums throughout their career . Despite facing a prolonged battle with cancer that lasted three decades, Peters remained committed to his music and advocacy work until his death.

Mike Peters, front man of Welsh rockers The Alarm and a long-standing cancer campaigner and fundraiser, has died aged 66.

Rhyl, Denbighshire, out of the punk era and had a top 20 hit, Sixty Eight Guns, two years later.

It typified an anthemic style of song but their unpretentious and down-to-earth approach earned loyal followings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Peters lived with blood cancer for 30 years, following his diagnosis of lymphoma in 1995, and later having chronic lymphocytic leukaemia twice.

His death was announced by a spokesperson for the charity he co-founded with his wife.

Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, was first diagnosed with the blood cancer chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) more than 30 years ago.

He underwent numerous drug treatments and rounds of chemotherapy, and had tried experimental therapy to treat his cancer.

Peters was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1995 and spent two decades undergoing intensive treatment. In 2005, he was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, which returned in 2015.

With his wife, he co-founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation, which helped recruit bone marrow donors at live concerts. He performed in unconventional locations to raise money for the charity, including Mt. Kilimanjaro and “Big Busk” walking concerts between cancer wards in Wales. Acts including Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young joined him onstage for charity events, and in 2019 he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his cancer activism.

Beyond his musical legacy, Peters was instrumental in founding the Love Hope Strength Foundation, which focused on cancer awareness and stem cell donation registration . His dedication to cancer advocacy earned him recognition within both the music industry and charitable organizations. As he collaborated with prominent artists like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, Peters' influence extended beyond mere entertainment; he became a beacon of hope for many battling similar health challenges .
