The Japanese restaurant first opened a decade ago in 2015, as the sister restaurant to Sakushi in Sheffield’s city centre.

The announcement of Koko’s closure was made on Facebook: “After reaching our 10th birthday, we are sad to say we will be closing forever on the 14th April.

“We hope to see you for one last meal.”

It was described to offer a “unique range of Asian and Japanese food taking inspiration from both local and Asian sources”.

It also provided an opportunity for chefs to bring greater freedom and creative masterpieces to their food, with more experimental fusion cuisine.

Several fans of the beloved restaurant took to the social media post to express their disappointment with the news.

One user wrote: “So sad to here this, love this restaurant.”

Another added: ” We love this place and are really sad.”

Koko had received a 4.7 star rating from its 364 reviews on Google.

Customers had shared their satisfaction with the food and services provided: “Really delicious food and set menu is good value for money especially with the 20% off offer.

One also commented: “The service was really good and the manager was very helpful and friendly.”

The restaurant’s closure comes after it was advertised for sale in 2023.

Marketer of the business, Hilton Smythe, said it was being sold “due to our client’s desire to pursue other business interest”.

The restaurant’s closure comes amid a series of other restaurants that have permanently closed around the UK.

Recently, this includes the central site for Gordon Ramsay’s burger chain restaurant, and a major bar and restaurant in Brighton.,

The UK’s oldest Indian restaurant is also facing potential closure, despite starting a petition to King Charles to keep it open after 99 years.
