Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson looks completely unrecognisable in his new blockbuster film.
‘The Smashing Machine’ tells the story of UFC legend Mark Kerr, who battled a serious drug addiction during his successful MMA career.

Johnson, of course, takes centre stage as the main character, while undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk plays Ukrainian MMA icon Igor Vovchanchyn, who fought Kerr twice in his career.
Emily Blunt also co-star’s as Kerr’s wife Dawn Staples, and the film’s trailer has just dropped.
During the 190-second trailer, Johnson looks totally different from his usual film persona.
It shows Kerr in multiple fights, as well as talking about the spirit of his beloved MMA sport.
Fans were left completely stunned at Johnson’s new look, but many credited him for smashing the stereotypes of his typical role.
One responded to the trailer on YouTube and said: “I didn’t even recognise Dwayne.”
Another added: “It seriously took me half the trailer to even realise it was The Rock. Incredible.”
A third responded: “Dwayne Johnson’s answer for people saying he doesn’t have range. Well down Dwayne.”
While a fourth wrote: “I am glad The Rock is breaking out of his shell and giving us actual good acting. At one point he kept playing the same roles over and over again.”

The Rock discussed making his indie debut with Benny Safdie’s biopic, which has a reported budget of $40m, in January 2024, saying he is looking to have ‘more’ for his career.
“I want more humanity,” he told Variety. “And that is why Benny Safdie is the perfect, collaborative, hungry partner for me.
“Benny wants to create, and continues to push the envelope when it comes to stories that are raw and real, characters that are authentic and at times uncomfortable and arresting.
“I’m at a point in my career where I want to push myself in ways that I’ve not pushed myself in the past.
“I’m at a point in my career where I want to make films that matter, that explore a humanity and explore struggle [and] pain.”

Kerr struggled with an addiction to painkillers and has openly talked about how it impacted his career since retiring from MMA.
The Ohio native, who retired with a 15-11 record, was the subject of a 2003 HBO documentary titled ‘The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr.‘
It follows the UFC star and deals with the ‘no holds barred’ aspect of early MMA, while also battling an addiction to painkillers that led to a life-threatening overdose in 1999.
