Complete with live music and food vendors, the festivities finished in a ribbon-cutting ceremony – signifying the dealership’s official launch.
For Evan Bache, one of the dealership’s owners, it was a moment to celebrate the end of a long, drawn-out process.
He said: “It’s been about a three-year process to get to this point.
“Getting here was a long, hard journey, but we were able to get it done—and the Harley world follows you wherever you go.”
The new Stonewall Harley-Davidson dealership, located in Greene County, Virginia, was even visited by Karen Davidson, a significant figure in the Harley-Davidson community, who participated in the ceremonial “chain cutting”.
Davidson is the great-granddaughter of one of Harley-Davidson’s co-founders and the daughter of Willie G. Davidson, a legendary designer and icon in the Harley-Davidson brand.
As well as the chain-cutting, she met fans and signed copies of the memoir Willie G. Davidson, called ‘Ride Free’.
Store owners also thanked the so-called Buffalo Soldiers for directing traffic, as well as a number of combat vets who were part of their National Anthem ceremony.
This news comes during a period of upheaval for the bike giant, with rumours they’re considering a potential $1 billion sale of its financial arm.
According to Business Times, unnamed sources claim they are testing the waters for interest in the sale of its Financial Services, which includes regional banks, private equity firms and private credit players.
They’re also looking for a new CEO, with Jochen Zeitz announced he was stepping down this month after five years running the business.
Elsewhere, a new law has come into effect this week that sees drivers of certain vehicles risk huge fines.
That’s unless they provide safety presentations to customers before the trip begins.
These presentations, which must cover protocols around the use of emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and window-break tools, will be similar to those given before airplanes take off.
The change was prompted by a tragic accident that occurred back in 2018, which saw an upstate limo crash end in the death of 20 people – including four sisters.
Federal investigators later found state regulators repeatedly failed to properly oversee the vehicle – which was poorly maintained.
The National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB, found that the crash was likely caused by “egregious disregard for safety” by the operators – resulting in brake failure on a long downhill stretch.
The law went into effect on April 23 in New York, mandated by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, DMV.
Harley-Davidson closures in 2024
There are over 650 Harley-Davidson dealerships across America.
However, multiple stores have closed for various reasons throughout 2024 – if they give any explanation at all.
Below is a list of some Harley-Davidson locations that have shuttered this year and why they closed their doors:
A San Francisco location closed in June 2024 after 110 years due to ‘chaos’ brought by new management.
Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, closed in September 2024 with no reason given.
Harley-Davidson’s legacy location in New York City closed shop on September 28, 2024, with the owner citing problems with the economy.
Reiman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Illinois, closed its doors in October 2024 after the owners sold the business to the Walter Brothers Harley Davidson dealership in Peoria, Illinois.
Another Illinois dealership closed in November 2024.
Plus, the dealership in West Bend, Wisconsin, is temporarily closing for the season from November 2 until April 1, 2024.
In 2025, Hideout Harley-Davidson in Missouri announced it would shutter at the end of March.
