Long Beach residents can enjoy listening to performances by renowned mariachi bands this weekend at the city’s Mariachi Festival.

The Long Beach Mariachi Festival will take place on Saturday, May 3, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Veterans Park, 101 E. 28th St. Residents will be able to listen to live music, but there will also be food and entertainment for all ages.

This is the second year that the free festival will be hosted by the council offices of Vice Mayor Roberto Uranga and Councilmember Mary Zendejas.

“I’m excited to host this festival once again and bring the sounds, energy, and spirit of these great performers to our community,” Uranga said in a written statement on Monday.

Musical performances include Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, Mariachi Rams, and Susie Hansen Latin Band, among other performers. Headlining the event will be Death Row Records’ Julian Torres.

Torres was born in Hawthorne and, as a child, was inspired to become a mariachi singer and began his career singing at community events and church carnivals, according to his biography. In 2023, he became the first singer of the mariachi genre to be signed under Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records. Torres’ performance will begin at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The festival is open to the public and parking is free. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and chairs.

There will also be food trucks, a resource fair, a kids fun zone and more.

The event aims to celebrate and preserve Long Beach’s Latino culture. Officials said that the festival is also an opportunity to highlight and uplift Latino-owned businesses, nonprofit organizations, cultural performers, musicians and other entertainers.

“Events like this are so important because they keep our cultures alive, connect neighbors, and celebrate the diversity that makes Long Beach special,” Uranga said. “We’re looking forward to a day of live music, family-friendly fun, and great food as we honor the rich heritage of Mariachi. I hope to see you there.”
