The Weld County Coroner has identified Eugene Lee Walter as the man killed in a two-vehicle crash at 20th Street and 35th Avenue in Greeley on Wednesday afternoon.
The coroner’s office, as well as online obituaries, list Walter as being 79 years old. Greeley police previously reported him as being 80.
“Though Eugene Lee has departed this earthly realm, his legacy endures,” his obituary reads. “A legacy of love that will continue to illuminate the lives of family and friends in the darkest of hours.”
Walter was killed Wednesday when the Mini Cooper he was driving collided head on with a pickup truck driven by a Greeley teenager. The teenager hit Walter as he was making a left turn onto 20th Street from 35th Avenue. Both drivers ran a red light leading to the crash, according to Greeley police.
Police say they will pursue appropriate charges against the 16-year-old driver of the pickup, who sustained minor injuries in the crash.
