In January, The i Paper revealed Musk had agreed to fund serveral of Robinson’s key legal battles. Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is also engaged in a legal challenge after being charged under the Terrorism Act for failing to provide the pin to his mobile phone.

Those cases bankrolled by Musk were said to include those which challenge “the treatment of Tommy while in prison” and the “‘Terrorism’ Case”. Robinson is due to be released from prison in July.

The tech billionaire first began posting about him on social media in the wake of the Southport riots, before calling for Robinson to be freed from prison in January.

This public support has continued. Last week, Musk shared a post made by Robinson’s team on X. made claims about media cover-ups and an alleged white genocide in Musk’s country of birth, South Africa.

Musk donated $14m [£10.5m]to his preferred candidate’s campaign and flew to the state to personally award two $1m (£770,000) cheques to a pair of voters.

An archived screenshot of Robinson’s legal bills crowdfunder was saved in October. The i Paper checked the progress of it on morning of 30 November and the amount raised stood at £104,201.

A plea to Musk to help with funds was made in January by one close supporter of Robinson.

Given the levels of legal representation Robinson has previously had for his court battles, one law expert told The i Paper that £125,000 would be the approximate cost of funding his legal battles.

Imran Ahmed, chief executive of the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, highlighted that there is a potential financial incentive for Musk’s seemingly cosy relationship with Robinson.
