McIlroy will be seeking a third win at the PGA ChampionshipUSA TodayNow, the 35-year-old will have a great chance to add another major title to his stunning CV as he headlines the field for the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
McIlroy has won four times in Charlotte already and will relish teeing it up there again.
Xander Schauffele will be the defending champion following his sublime performance at Valhalla Golf Club last year.
However, his victory was somewhat overshadowed by the news of Scottie Scheffler being arrested and charged with assaulting a police office on the second day of the tournament.
The two-time Masters champion found himself in the back of a police car outside Valhalla and taken to a station but all charges were later dropped.
A year on and Scheffler will be eyeing PGA Championship victory to banish any memories of that dramatic incident.

PGA Championship 2025: The Course
The course at Quail Hollow Club, designed by George Cobb in 1959, measures 7,600 yards and is a par 71.
This will be the second time the venue has hosted the PGA Championship, having also done so in 2017 when Justin Thomas claimed glory.
It is mainly known for hosting the Wells Fargo Championship each year, and it has done so since 2003.
It is famed for ‘The Green Mile’, which consists of holes 16, 17 and 18.
This is widely considered to be one of the most difficult stretches in golf after hole 16 was modified and moved to the edge of a lake.
At 17, there is a pond that makes landing the ball on the green extremely tricky while 18 is known to be one of the toughest endings in golf.
McIlroy will return to Quail Hollow as a Grand Slam championGettyPGA Championship 2025: What has been said?
Schauffele won his first major title at Valhalla last May before going on to clinch Open glory at Troon later in the summer.
Following his win at the PGA Championship, he said: “It’s been a while since I’ve won and I kept saying all week I needed to stay in my lane. Man was it hard to do that today.
“I tried all day to keep focussed on what I needed to do and keep every hole ahead of me.
“I think I would have been a bit less patient if that putt had not have gone in. I really did not want to go into a play-off against Bryson.
“I told myself ‘this was my opportunity, just capture it’.
“My mum is in San Diego and my dad is in Hawaii and I managed to call him but I had to hang up quickly because he was making me cry. He was on the phone bawling. It means so much.
“I am very satisfied. I’m tired. Once I sat down in scoring, I felt a little bit more tired. But just a whirlwind of emotions. I knew I had to birdie the last hole, looking up at the board.
“I was trying to squeak a birdie in there somehow just to have some kind of cushion. It was a hectic birdie, as well, but it was awesome. I kept telling myself, I need to earn this, I need to prove this to myself, and this is my time.
“I stayed very patient. I was looking up at the board. There’s been times where I tried to look away from it until the back nine, but today I was looking at it. I just wanted to be aware of everything. I wanted to know exactly where I stood. I wanted to know and address my feelings when they were happening.”
