This is a light week for local government, but there is one very big meeting in Hillsborough on Tuesday: Orange County Commissioners will meet jointly with the county’s two school boards to get their respective budget requests for next year. This year’s budget talks have a new twist: the boards will have to figure out how to deal with the volatile situation in Washington, where the only thing certain is that local schools will not be able to take any federal support for granted.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties:
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. Monday, April 28. Click here for the full agenda, which includes a public hearing on COVID-related block grant funds (which are coming to an end) and a discussion of a possible annexation along NC-86 North.
Durham County Commissioners also meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 28, with a light agenda that includes appointments to Durham’s City-County Appearance Commission. Get the full agenda at this link.
Finally, Orange County Commissioners meet jointly with the Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro school boards Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough.
