On Day 3 of the NFL Draft, the New York Giants made dreams a reality when they selected Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo with the 105th overall pick in the fourth round.
After a historic season in which he became the first FBS player since Christian McCaffrey with more than 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single year, Skattebo now wants to bring that same energy to the Big Apple.
“I’m bringing a hard runner, someone that’s gonna score a lot of touchdowns, do whatever I can to put us in the right positions to win,” Skattebo told Madelyn Burke of Giants.com. “So I’m excited to be a Giant. And no matter what these next four or five-years-plus brings me, I’m excited.”

The Giants didn’t just draft another running back. They brought in someone who embodies a team-first culture from Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State.
His visit to the Giants’ facility only solidified that feeling with coach Brian Daboll and staff.

Skattebo was brought in for a top 30 visit with New York during the pre-draft process.
“Every coach that I’ve talked to in that facility was very positive, very mindful of who I am,” Skattebo said. “They appreciated the way I play and I appreciate them. The way they’re picking in the draft, they’re doing a good job and, you know, I’m excited to be a part of the team and get ready to work for them.”

Hard work has never been something Skattebo shied away from.
He was not a five-star recruit, having to make a name for himself at Sacramento State before transferring to ASU, where he became a star under Dillingham.
Dillingham became a mentor and a friend off the field.
“Yeah, he made me just a better person all around,” Skattebo said about his former college coach. “He made me do the things right and make sure that I was on top of my stuff all the time. So just having him in the building and him as a coach and most importantly, as a person. I connected with him as a person.
“You know, he’s my friend now and I’ll always forever be in his corner and I know he’ll be in mine. That’s someone that I love dearly and I care for him a lot. So I’m excited for his future and hopefully, he’s excited for mine.”
Skattebo’s teammates can see first-hand that he’s not someone who gives up. When Arizona State was down 17-3 in the Peach Bowl against Texas, ASU almost mounted a win, losing 39-31 in a double OT thriller.
The now-Giants RB battled through sickness — coughing up a croissant, he said — and was the leading force in the ASU comeback attempt.
“I was a little sick at the beginning of the game, wasn’t feeling like myself,” Skattebo said. “But, that team and the team I was on and the people that I was with, we never had any doubt — every game we played.”
Skattebo finished the game with 143 rushing yards, 99 receiving yards and 42 passing yards with three total touchdowns.
What does the New York Giants running back room look like?
Skattebo has a chance to compete for the RB1 position on New York. The Giants have Tyron Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary and Eric Gray rostered.
Tracy led the Giants in rushing last season with 839 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Singletary tallied 437 yards on the ground to go along with four scores.
Gray only saw 14 carries for 31 yards.
