Darwin Nunez quickly deleted a social media post which appeared to hit out at his lack of minutes for Liverpool.
His only Premier League start so far in 2025 came in a 3-1 victory against Southampton back in March – a game in which he scored.
The season before his Liverpool move, he was on fire netting 34 goals for BenficaGettyThe forward has only made eight league starts this season, logging exactly 1,000 minutes in 25 appearances.
He currently has five goals and three assists in the top flight this campaign.
Liverpool simply need to draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday to win the league but Nunez is not satisfied with his contribution.
He tweeted on Saturday: “No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”
, which was quickly deleted, comes amid rumours that there is a clause in his contract which would obligate Liverpool to pay Nunez’s former club Benfica £5million if he starts 50 matches – with the striker currently on 49.
In response to being asked about this, manager Arne Slot replied on Friday: “Do you always believe what journalists say? Not always? Me neither. Sometimes you should, but sometimes it’s better not to believe everything that is written about players.
“This is completely new to me and I’ve said many times that I’m working at a club here where it’s really nice to work.
“So mainly sporting directors are judged by the players they bring in, for me it’s very important to have a great working environment and I have that with Richard [Hughes].
“The last thing he would do, as I expect working with him for 10 months, is tell me: ‘If you play him it would cost us this much’.
“That, he would never do. I don’t even know if it’s true, yes or no, because we never talk about that. He never interferes with a lineup.”
Nunez has had big moments in a Liverpool shirts but many fans are frustrated by his inconsistent finishingAFPLast season, Nunez received 2,045 league minutes, trumping the 1,698 minutes in his debut season.
