NFL Draft 2025: Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart picked No. 25 overall in Round 1 ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Jaxson Dart is a first-round pick.

With the 25th overall pick in Thursday night’s NFL Draft, the former Ole Miss quarterback was selected by the New York Giants and made some Ole Miss history in the process. Dart becomes the first former Rebel to be taken in the first round of an NFL Draft since 2017, and he becomes just the third quarterback in school history to go in the opening round, joining Eli and Archie Manning.

The Giants had the third overall pick in Thursday night’s draft and were linked to Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders for months, but they opted to take a defender with the top-5 choice instead. New York reportedly traded the 34th overall pick, the 99th overall pick, and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans to move back into the first round.

Dart left Ole Miss after a 3-year stint that was arguably the best in program history. He led the Rebels to back-to-back 10-win seasons as a starter while becoming the program’s all-time leader in career passing yardage. Dart also set a single-season program record for passing in 2024.

A 4-star, top-100 recruit out of Utah in the 2021 class, Dart initially signed with USC to play for Clay Helton. He appeared in 6 games and made 3 starts as a true freshman for USC during the 2021 season.

Following Helton’s dismissal, Dart hit the transfer portal and linked up with Lane Kiffin in The Grove.

Dart won the starting job right away and started in 12 of the Rebels’ 13 games in 2022. He started all 13 games during the 2023 season, leading Ole Miss to its first-ever 11-win season. And he started all 13 games once again for the Rebels in 2024.

In 3 years with Ole Miss, Dart threw for 10,617 yards with 72 touchdowns while completing 66% of his throws. He also added 1,498 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Dart owns the program’s all-time record for wins by a starting quarterback (28). He also set program records for career offense (12,115 yards), passing yards, passing efficiency (162.8), 300-yard passing games (15), rushing yards by a quarterback, and total offense per play (8.1).

With Dart spending multiple seasons in a quarterback-friendly offense that frequently schemes open receivers, scouts questioned Dart’s ability to step up to the NFL, go through progressions, and beat NFL defenses. But Dart stood out during the Senior Bowl and then stood out at the NFL Scouting Combine. For weeks leading up to the draft, he was bandied about as a guy who could rise up the board.

That came to fruition on Thursday night.
