NFL Draft 2025: Former Ole Miss DL Walter Nolen picked No. 16 overall in Round 1 ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Ole Miss came up empty in the first round a year ago, sending 0 Rebels to the NFL on Day 1 of the draft in Detroit. A year later in Green Bay, it was a different story for Lane Kiffin’s surging program.

With the 16th overall pick, the Arizona Cardinals selected defensive lineman Walter Nolen.

The Ole Miss record for first-round picks is 3, which happened in the 2016 draft. And while reaching that amount on Thursday night was heavily in question, the Rebels were at least back on the board when it came to even having a single first-round selection.

The 2025 draft will almost certainly be the 5th straight draft where multiple Ole Miss players are taken, with the rest of the first round and 6 more rounds coming on Friday and Saturday. Last year was the third draft in a row with at least 3 Rebels picked, and Nolen’s pick to Arizona got Ole Miss on a course to make it 4 years in a row. Nolen’s pick brings Ole Miss’s draft selection list to 316 in its history, with 16 of those picks coming in the Kiffin era.

Nolen is a multiple SEC alum though, playing at Texas A&M in 2022 and 2023 before transferring to Ole Miss for the 2024 season. He made that last season in college count, being named a first-team All-American in his 1 year in Oxford with 48 tackles, including 14 tackles-for-loss, and 6.5 sacks.
