2025 Team Rebel Aquatics Long Course Opener
April 12-14, 2025 Las Vegas, NV Results: “2025CATeam Rebel Aquatics Long Course Opener” on Meet MobileAmerican Olympians Claire Weinstein and Bella Sims checked in at the Team Rebel Aquatics Long Course Opener in their hometown of Las Vegas last weekend.
The former Sandpiper training partners went head-to-head in the 200 free with Weinstein running away with the victory. The 18-year-old Cal commit threw down a 1:58.06 to score a new season best and the #19 time in the world this season. At this time last year, Weinstein swam a 1:58.56 before capturing an Olympic team berth in the event two months later. Sims, who is in the transfer portal after finishing her sophomore season at Florida, swam 2:02.28 to place second.
The pair also raced each other in the 50 free. Weinstein just edged out Sims, 26.39 to 26.51, to earn another victory. Their best times stand at 26.16 and 25.80, respectively
Sims picked up wins for herself in the 100 free (56.93) and 200 IM (2:16.14). Weinstein, meanwhile, also came out on top of the 400 free (4:13.26) and 200 back (2:20.58).
Weinstein’s Sandpiper teammates Luke Ellis and Gabriel Manteufel picked up several wins on the boy’s side of the meet. Ellis, a high school senior headed to Indiana in the fall, posted a new season best in the 800 free, winning in 8:14.99. This is well off his 7:52.40 best from the 2024 Junior Pan Pacs but is a six second drop from January. Ellis also won the 200 back (2:08.56) and 200 IM (2:08.16).
Manteufel, also an Indiana commit but a year after Ellis, won some off-events. The 17-year-old distance swimmer captured the 100 breaststroke win (1:08.00) as well as the 100 fly (58.55). In one of his better events, the 400 IM, Manteufel posted a 4:30.25. This is well off his 4:21.93 best, but good enough for a third win.
