‘Bring on the boos’ – Luke Littler branded ‘fragile’ by darts rival ahead of hostile night ...Middle East

Luke Littler has been labeled ‘fragile’ by Stephen Bunting as the Premier League heads to Liverpool this week.

Bunting, a die-hard Liverpool fan, was discussing the reception that Littler would get when they head to the M&S Bank Arena.

Littler is ‘fragile’ after a rocky few weeks, says Stephen BuntingGetty

Littler is an avid Manchester United fan and rubbed the red half of Merseyside up the wrong way last year when he mocked them for losing 2-0 to Everton.

As a result, the 18-year-old was booed by the crowd and could be in store for a similar reception this time around.

Discussing the reception that Littler is braced for, Bunting said: “Football rivalries will always be part of the sport, one way or another, but it’s a dangerous path to go down.

“Last year, I was there as a fan and he was mocking us for getting beat 2-0 by Everton, and I don’t think people forget stuff like that.

“I would imagine he’s going to get a few boos from a Liverpool crowd and, with how fragile he is at the minute after his experience in Germany, I don’t think he likes it – but sometimes you can bring it on yourself.”

Littler sounds like he knows what he’s in for.

Taking to X, Littler wrote: “One of the best nights on the Premier League calendar coming up tomorrow, bring on the boos Liverpool“.

It comes just days after he endured a torrid time while competing in German Darts Grand Prix where he lost in the semi-finals to Gian van Veen.

Following his latest defeat, Littler took to Instagram with a cryptic message which hinted at him pulling out of upcoming events in Germany.

Posting a picture of the inside of his car, he wrote: “Shouldn’t have been in Munich but had to play anyway.

“Next one in Germany for me is Dortmund and I am glad to say that.”

Littler was alluding to the European Tour final in Dortmund in October however, his post suggests that he is planning to skip all tournaments in Germany until October’s commitments in Dortmund.

He has struggled to win over the German public having been booed at events in the past.

And it was the same theme at the German Masters with sections of the crowd opting to support Littler’s opponents.

In his quarter-final victory over Wright, the crowd chanted in favour of the veteran star with Littler choosing not to acknowledge the spectators after he had wrapped up his victory.

During night nine of Premier League Darts in Berlin, the 18-year-old admitted he struggled to get to grips with the hostility from the crowd.

He said: “I had a little headloss moment, as some of us players do. I just don’t get it, and I can’t explain it. Obviously, you do your walk-on, but then as soon as I got on stage, I started getting booed.

“I got booed in Hildesheim last year against Peter Wright on the European Tour. I was flying and then they started booing me and I lost. It’s something we’ve all got to deal with. Obviously, the Germans mustn’t like us English.”

Littler returns to Premier League action against Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals in Liverpool.
