Rangers are in active takeover talks with 49ers Enterprises for a controlling stake of at least 51 per cent, talkSPORT understands.
The Scottish side have confirmed that ‘productive conversations’ are ongoing with the group, who owns NFL side San Francisco 49ers, as well as healthcare tycoon Andrew Cavenagh.
Rangers are in the process of a takeover with US investorsGettyA joint statement has been issued by both the Ibrox outfit and the potential incoming investors.
It read: “Rangers and its existing shareholders are in productive conversations with the two lead members of the Consortium, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group, about the potential for the Consortium to acquire control of the club and to inject additional capital.
“These discussions reflect a shared recognition of the importance of Rangers FC’s long term direction, ambition and management.”
Cavenagh and 49ers technical director Gretar Steinsson have attended numerous Rangers matches this season.
It should be no surprise to fans that a takeover could be completed with all parties believed to have been negotiating since October.
No timescale has been given over when a deal may be finalised.
Though it is expected to be completed prior to the 2025/26 campaign.
Rangers have been open to a takeover having posted a net loss of £17.2million in October.
According to Forbes, the 49ers Enterprises are valued at a whopping £5.7billion.
Should their takeover be completed, Rangers would become the second British football club to be part of the 49ers family, as they also own Leeds United.
The Scottish side could soon be taken over by the £5.7bn 49ersGettyThe Whites recently secured their promotion back to the Premier League – two years after the 49ers took control..
And the 49ers remain committed to establish Leeds a sustainable top-flight side.
A spokesperson for 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group said: “The strength of our commitment, resources, and ambition for Leeds United remains unchanged.
“We look forward to competing in the Premier League next season.”
And that is evident with their ambition to expand Elland Road to make it one of the biggest stadiums in England.
Planning permission for the redevelopment work cites an eventual capacity of up to 56,000 from 37,792, but it is understood the number will end up closer to 53,000 fans.
