After wrapping up their show in Indianapolis on Sunday, April 20, the members of Cancer Bats checked into a hotel to get some rest before moving onto their next performance spot. Unfortunately, while they slept, their van and trailer full of equipment and merchandise were stolen from the parking lot. While they were able to recover the van, the window was "smashed" in the theft and the ignition was "[messed] up," likely due to it being hot-wired. The thieves also stole the catalytic converter.
"Getting robbed sucks," they later wrote on social media. "And asking for money kinda sucks too when there’s so many people out there in way worse situations than we are, but we’re in a bit of a pickle and want to keep on rocking and rolling!!"
"We know that these gofundme campaigns can be a little kooky and we don't want to get more money than we need to replace our equipment," they wrote, unsure how much insurance would contribute.
"But in this robbery we lost a lot of equipment that we hold near and dear to our hearts. Equipment that helped write a lot of our songs. Stuff that has been customised by us over the years. Gear that is not easily replaceable," they explained.
The band's show on Tuesday, April 22, appears to have gone on as planned, though it's not clear if they were able to purchase new instruments and gear that quickly or if they pulled it together some other way.
